There's no place like home, especially when it
comes
to vacations – or so
says
data from the United States Department of Transportation regarding holiday travel. According to this data, in the year 2024, the majority of Americans
chose
to vacation within their own country. These statistics
indicate
that a significant portion of U.S. citizens stayed domestically during their vacation time, with only about one-quarter
opting
for international travel. Similar patterns were
seen
in Canada, Mexico, and the UK. Conversely, extensive international travel
was
noted among residents of New York City, with over eighty percent venturing abroad, and in California, where nearly seventy percent
sought
destinations outside the United States. The Department also
reports
that cars remain the most prevalent mode of transport for holiday trips. In contrast, only in major metropolitan areas like New York City and Los Angeles
was
air travel more commonly used. In the Midwest, nearly two-thirds of residents took vacations by car, while just over four percent traveled by plane, and about one-third chose trains and an equal portion selected buses.
