People in the United States seem to be embracing local travel more than international trips recently, according to the American Travel Association's recent survey. The association found that the majority of Americans in 2022 opted for vacations within the country rather than abroad. From these statistics, it's evident that a large proportion of Americans preferred staying within the United States during their holiday seasons, with only about 25% choosing to travel internationally. This trend mirrors that of Canada and Mexico, where domestic travel has also seen a surge. Meanwhile, residents of the UK have shown a
contrasting
pattern, with nearly 85% traveling outside their homeland for holidays. The American Travel Association also reported that cars remain the most
common
means of transport for domestic travel in the U.S. Only in densely
populated
cities like New York and Chicago is flying becoming more common than driving. Nationally, over 60% of Americans choose to drive to their vacation destinations, around 10% fly, and about a
quarter
opt for trains and buses for their travels. This preference for cars might be due, in part, to the intricate and
comprehensive
network of highways and interstates that span the entire nation. Additionally, the flexibility and
freedom
that driving offers could be other significant factors for this choice. This goes to show that despite the allure of international destinations, many Americans find comfort and convenience in
exploring
the vast diversity and beauty of their own country. It doesn't matter if they're heading to the serene beaches of the California coast, the
rugged
mountains of Colorado, or the bustling streets of Washington D.C., American travelers often find that there is plenty to discover
right
at home.
